Background
Top Image Systems is an international provider of automated solutions for document capture, mailroom management and other office functions. Beginning in September 2008, we took over the management of SEO for their UK web presence.
Strategy
The first issue we identified for TIS was the fact that their UK site was an exact mirror of their global site. For search purposes, our recommendation was that the two sites be separated and differentiated, with the UK site being more oriented towards the language and priorities of UK users.
We suggested usability improvements aimed at ensuring all the site’s pages could be found, such as building more internal links. We also proposed changes to the website’s content aimed at making it less technical and more accessible to users. META descriptions, which often appear in search results, were made more compelling, as were the site’s HTML page titles. This helped to boost traffic and, more importantly, convert more traffic into business enquiries.
Having identified the changes necessary, we conveyed them to TIS and their web developers through weekly conference calls and follow-up emails.
In addition to the hands-on aspects of the campaign, we provided consultancy and guidance on SEO principles to TIS’ UK marketing manager, helping her to build the business case for investing in search and communicate the business benefits of our search campaign to senior executives.
Currently, we are working on PR campaigns on key topics, promoted via social-media sites such as Twitter.
Results
As a result of our SEO campaign, TIS have seen their UK site rise to the top five for key search terms such as ‘AP automation’ and ‘mailroom application’.
